With stunning performances by five beautiful Cuban divas, this is definitely an album which lives up to its title. Backed by musicians young, yet renowned, they sing happily and sadly. At times with gloom, and at times contempt. There is bolero and there is cha-cha-cha. Recorded in Cuba by Roberto Carcasses, the recording process was picked up by TV stations and caused quite a stir in the media. But, really, this is an album for whoever loves music, and songs, and who truly believes: women are beautiful.
The CD comes packaged with photography by Gary Winogrand from his book of the same title.
このアルバムは「女は美しい」というタイトルどおりのコンセプトアルバムだ。女の声、女の歌の美しさの全てを網羅している。音楽ドキュメンタリー映 画の名作”BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB”でも紅一点で大活躍した世界的な女性歌手Omara Portuondoを筆頭に、柔らかくて深いその声で観客の心を奪うHaydee Milanes、キューバン・サルサの巨星バンド、バルバドスとの楽曲でその華々しいデビューを飾り、現在は作り手としての才能も発揮している Beatriz Marques、キューバの若手注目の女性シンガー・ソングライター & ギタリストYusa、キューバの一流が集うバンドDiminutoにヴォーカルとして迎えられ、活動の場を広げ数多くのレコードをリリースしている Diana Fuentesなど、20代～70代のキューバを代表する5人の歌姫が贈る夢のコラボレートである。ジャケットはアメリカ現代写真のGarry Winograndが70年代に出版した写真集「Women are Beautiful」より起用。
